Bill was ordained in 1974 in the first class of deacons in Toronto. He ministered at Blessed Trinity until 1999 when he and Yvette moved back to Burlington. In 2001 he was appointed director of the diaconate for Hamilton and got the PD program up and running. His first group of deacons was ordained in June 2006 and most of them were in attendance at the funeral Mass along with 30+ Toronto deacons including his classmates Dan Murphy, Tab Charbonneau and Alex MacGregor. His legacy lives on in 9 candidates who are studying for the Hamilton PD.
His funeral Mass was celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church on November 26. The presiding celebrant was Archbishop Tonnos with concelebrants Bishop Bergie and Bishop Hundt, who had been on his initial admissions committee. Many priests were also present, and the church was full. Fr. Larry Leger, a long time friend, gave a marvellous homily.
Our sincere condolences to Bill’s wife Yvette and the family.
